HI,
I'M ANOSH AIBARA
I am a writer, filmmaker, photographer and theatre practitioner from Mumbai, India. Art is all around us. Art is, in its purest form, expression. The need to express oneself, one’s ideas and emotions is what makes us human, and the need to tell stories comes to us all as naturally as the need to drink water.
My love for cinema began in childhood when my grandpa used to show me old war films. I knew then that I wanted to be in any capacity a part of this world. It took me out of this real world of going to school, celebrating birthdays, waiting in traffic, playing with friends.
Joining Metamorphosis Theatre and Films 18 months ago, first as an intern, then as a recurring collaborator, opened a whole new world of expression and storytelling. Despite being a completely different ballpark, theatre is not that different from cinema. Both mediums complement each other, and it benefited me a great deal to work in multiple mediums, and being exposed to professionals from both mediums.
From lighting a stage for a show to lighting a set for a scene, from designing sound for a show to designing sound for a film, from stage management to prop management and costuming assistant, I have been involved in theatre and film productions at each stage of conception.
As an Indian, growing up exposed to a multitude of cultures, each culture in itself a self-sufficient philosophy of life, a unique way of seeing things, with it’s own rich history of the arts, gave me not only a ‘tolerant’ outlook, but an open mind to different ways of thinking and seeing life. Working in theatre later, exposed me to a whole new art-form and approach to storytelling, that put cinema into perspective, in context of literature, theatre and photography.
It is this multi-dimensional appetite that inspires and informs my work, with the aim of blurring the lines between art forms and perhaps create out of it, an authentic ‘GESAMTKUNSTWERK’, as Wagner put it.
